Code of Conduct

The Library is a quiet place at all times!

To ensure you enjoy using the Library we ask that you:

  • treat others as you would like to be treated
  • move around the Library in a quiet and sensible manner
  • respect staff and other users
  • do not eat or drink
  • do not wear outdoor coats
  • do not share Library membership cards or computer passwords
  • ask a member of the Library staff if you want to use a computer BEFORE logging on
  • leave quietly when asked.

Please note: students must not use the Library unsupervised at ANY TIME.

Membership

To become a member of the library, students require a permission letter from Library staff to be signed by a parent/carer and returned. On receipt of this letter, students are then enrolled onto the Library system and issued with a membership card.

In Year 7, students are given all this information as part of their Library lessons, which they have once a fortnight throughout the year. They are also given a Library Booklet, which explains everything about the Library. If a new student starts at Hungerhill School after Year 7, they will need to visit the Library during form time, break time, or lunch to collect a letter and booklet and follow the same process.

Student Librarians

If students wish to train to be a Student Librarian, or they simply want to find out more about what is involved, see the Librarian in the first instance. Our Student Librarians are key in ensuring the library runs smoothly. Their duties include a range of tasks such as restocking book shelves, checking out books and updating displays, but they also are involved in many other exciting initiatives within the library.

Student Librarians are carefully selected, and they are ambassadors for the library, so the position comes with a strong sense of responsibility and it is a privilege to be granted the role of Student Librarian. However, our Student Librarians are also a team, and they support the Librarian in the hosting of events and the delivery of competitions – so it is an exciting opportunity, which will make their time at the Academy even more memorable.
