16+ Careers Event Review
At the beginning of October our year 11 students had a full week of assemblies delivered by representatives from local sixth form schools, colleges and also apprenticeship providers. The aim of these assemblies was to raise awareness of the range of choices available to year 11 students as they make their transition from Hungerhill School. Students have been encouraged to attend as many open events as possible in order to help them make informed choices on their post 16 destinations.
Our Independent Careers Adviser, Mr John Jackson has had individual careers meetings with a number of year 11 students since these assemblies and has said “I think the week of year 11 assemblies earlier in the year when representatives of 6th forms, colleges and apprenticeship providers spoke to students has had a real impact. Students now seem to understand they have a choice to make and a wide range of options to consider.”
In addition to these assemblies, on Thursday 7th November, our annual 16+ careers event took place in school and was attended by many of our year 11 students and their parents and carers. The event gave students the opportunity to meet with 40 plus representatives from local sixth forms, colleges, Doncaster UTC, the armed forces, apprenticeship providers and local businesses that offer apprenticeships (see below for a more extensive list). Also on hand to help with careers advice and guidance were Mr John Jackson, Independent Careers Adviser, Mrs Monk, Head of Careers and Mrs Gratton
, Assistant Head of Careers.
